MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hi Everyone,

Well Christmas is almost here and it's HOT HOT HOT!!! in this part of the world..

Having spent my first 12 Christmases in England I can never understand why the majority of Aussies still insist on the traditional English Roast Turkey Dinner, as if 40 c isn't hot enough without putting the oven on??? Ha Ha!!

Give me barbecue Salmon with salad and a bottle of champagne any day!!

Any ways we are off to the beach to celebrate this wonderful season and I'm sure the Barbecue will be working overtime!

Wishing all my friends and fellow miniaturists a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hope Santa brings you all some lovely "Mini" treasures!!

Best Wishes,

Debby

Room Box

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd pop in a few more pics of my "Bedroom Room Box" which I have now nearly completed thanks to the delivery today of the gorgeous Chrystal Chandelier.

This is a battery operated version and it gives off a lovely clear light, I very happy with it, it will look even better when the ornate ceiling rose I have ordered arrives.

I have also added a few more bits of furniture..  I intend to recover the little chair in a neutral fabric.

Still thinking about the "Parquet" floor, maybe when I have more time!

Hope you like it.

Happy miniaturing,

Debby :)

Bye Bye Beacon Hill

A Farewell to Beacon Hill.

Hi Everyone,

Well I can finally sleep again as the "very challenging" Beacon Hill has found a new home...

I recently received a visit from my brother, fellow "mad miniaturist" although his thing is usually cars aircraft and trains.  I happened to give him a" Tour de Beacon Hill".. I explained the difficulty I was having bringing myself to finish the project and he, to my surprise and joy told me he would LOVE to take it home and finish it!! "Viola" Beacon Hill GONE!!

Now folks it did not take more than five minutes after loading the house into the back of my beloved brothers' car, for my creative juices to start flowing.. (there was just something about that house which "stumped" me!!) ....anyways, I have now designed and cut out house number six! I am building a Victorian Terrace, one room wide, two rooms deep and three storeys high with shop on the ground floor and living quarters above.
This is a very typically Australian type of building which can be found in Sydney and Melbourne..
I will post pics when I have something more substantial than a few sheets of M.D.F with holes in it!!

I am intending to fit a Corrugated Iron roof to the structure which is often used for  "the real thing"here in Australia, I have NO idea how I will achieve this look but I'm sure I will dream something up!

Well wish me luck people, I'll keep you posted....

Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy new year...

Little Room Box

Hi Everyone,

I spent the day making a "Room box" today which I intend to use to display my Etsy pieces for my website photographs.

I am really thrilled with the way this project has turned out.

I intend to install a gorgeous Chandelier I just have to wait for it arrive in the post, it's hard living on the bottom of the earth (Australia) sometimes!

I will also add a Parquet floor, as soon as I make one!   Also a window may be ....I think the room needs lovely curtains with swags and tails, don't you agree?

Of course decorating the room box meant another day NOT finishing my "Beacon Hill" hmm.. I don't think I'll go there.. I am having sleepless nights over that house!
I just keep pushing it out of my sight, and hoping it will disappear!  Terrible isn't it? I guess I will have to finish it one day, it just won't be any day soon....lol

Hope you enjoy the pics of my "Shabby Chic" room box.

Happy Miniaturing,

Deb :)

Montgomery Hall

Hi Folks,

As I haven't done a great deal on my "Beacon Hill" house this week I thought I'd post a few pics of my first dolls house Montgomery Hall.

I purchased this house as a kit from" Fairy Meadow Miniatures" a fantastic miniatures shop in Wollongong about two years ago, and Lorraine from the shop has been a great help with advise and materials during it's construction.  Of course it is not yet complete (when is a miniature house ever complete?) however I'm really happy with the results thus far..

This is a very large house especially with the basement added, it has taken a long time to find all of the little pieces to fill it.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Beacon Hill

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update on the "Beacon Hill".

I am now four weeks into this "Drama" and I can tell you it is a very time consuming building process. I've had many late nights working my fingers to the bone!! ha ha...
I have decided to "render" the exterior of my house as I think the weatherboards were too poor quality to use, I also want to individualise the house as much as I can. As you can see from the pics the "Verdi Gris" roof turned out quite well and I'm glad I deleted the 'Shingles"!
I have started to decorate the interior and I'm putting together a "Chysnbon" bathroom suite, and making some cardboard cabinets for the kitchen.. which will be "Shabby Chic" style. I will include one of my little kitchen table and chairs sets which I sell on my Etsy site, should be perfect for this room..
I'm tying to find a c1950's style stove/cooker  for the kitchen no luck so far, does any one know where I can find one?? I intend to add more exterior trim, I'm just not sure what this will be yet!!

Anyway this is not getting anything done so I had better get back to it..

P.S DO you like the clock in the tower? It's rather a famous clock face!! (Big Ben)

Happy Miniaturing!

"Beacon Hill" Dolls House.

Hi Everyone,

I have done a little more work on the Beacon Hill.   I did not like the Shingles which were included in the kit so I opted to paint the roof using a Faux Copper finish, Verdi Gris style.  I think it looks quite good and certainly Individualises the house somewhat.. I started to put the windows together today and also gave the exterior a coat of primer to seal it. After several hours of sanding I realised I had "Sanded"
away part of my thumbnail EEK!! very painful I would not recommend it!! Nowhere in the instructions does it say that the sanding will take weeks to complete..lol..

Hi Everyone,

The "Beacon Hill" is progressing slowly but surely. I started this project with quiet confidence having built several dolls houses prior to this, however "nothing" could have prepared me for what lay ahead! I have picked at least a dozen splinters from my "glue gun" burnt fingers, most of my hair is now strewn across the work room floor and I'm sure I am headed for some serious counselling when, if ever I finish this lol!

At least it is starting to look like a house, only a few thousand more pieces of wood to sand paint and glue together now...If I survive the next few days I'll keep you posted!

"Beacon Hill" Dolls House.

Hi Everyone,
It would seem my "new design" has to be put on hold, as after waiting for 6 months my "Beacon Hill" dolls house kit has finally arrived and I couldn't resist making a start on it.  I don't know how many of you have made this particular kit but to say the construction is challenging is an understatement! I have splinters in all of my fingers, the wood is very dry and difficult to manage and there are hundreds of pieces, however I will persevere as I'm determined to finish, it is such a pretty house with all the lovely "Gingerbread" detail to the facade.. I will be decorating it in a "shabby Chic" style just for a change lol! I think it will look great in Pastel colours. I will post some pics when I get a little further along.
I will keep you all posted with my progress, I just hope I can finish it without having a "nervous breakdown!!! Ha Ha!

Happy Miniaturing,

Deb

Welcome to my Blog

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my new Blog.

I am currently working on a new Doll House and I hope to share my  progress with you all.

The house in the pics is the fifth, 1/12th scale house that I have made.
I designed and built my little "French Town house" from scratch, using 6mm MDF, as could not find a suitable "kit House" in the style that I wanted.

The roof is made from individually applied cardboard shingles, a very "painstaking" method! lol..

I hope you enjoy reading my posts as I begin construction of my new project, and I look forward to your comments.

Cheers  Deb

Hi everyone,
Welcome to my blog, I am currently working on several miniature projects however, I would love to show you all my "French" house. I was inspired to begin this house after a recent trip to France where I fell in love with the beautiful buildings...

I constucted this house in1/12th scale using my own design, as I could not find a suitable design in kit form.  I used 6mm M.D.F for the main body of the house, and cardboard shingles individually (very time consuming) applied for the roof.
